Question of the Day: Tragic Love

by Corny O'Connell

Bonnie and Clyde were gunned down by police on this date in 1934. Their murderous exploits are legendary, but the public's fascination with them was rooted in the idea that they were a romantic couple. To mark the occasion we'll feature songs of tragic love. Leave your suggestion in the comments below and we'll put together a set this morning.

p.s. When we say "songs of tragic love," we mean love songs in which someone dies.

Here's what we played:

Rosanne Cash with Jeff Tweedy "Long Black Veil"

TAS on FUV for Wednesday May 22nd

by Russ Borris

The Alternate Side heads your way at 10 with new music from Phoenix, !!!, Depeche Mode, the Portland duo Wampire, Jamie Lidell and more.  Tonight's edition of The Shuffle should prove interesting to say the least, maybe even appropriate as it's Hump Night!  Who is it?  Let's just say, this duo is a couple of kiwis.  Find out more at 10!

Question of the Day: Can You Say "Mister Rogers"?

by Corny O'Connell

It was on this date in 1967 that Mister Rogers' Neighborhood made its debut. Fred Rogers' gentle manner was a hit with kids, but later became fodder for jokes. Whatever your viewpoint, we're looking for songs tying in with the show. That could be songs about neighborhoods, sweaters, the land of make believe, or anything else you can come up with. Leave your suggestion in the comments below and we'll spin a set this morning.

Here's what we played:

Judy Garland "The Trolley Song"

Meryn Cadell "The Sweater"

TAS on FUV for Tuesday May 21st

In case you haven't noticed, Daft Punk have taken over the world.  We'll spin a couple from their new album Random Access Memories tonight on The Alternate Side.  Plus, there's new music from Primal Scream, Yo La Tengo, Deerhunter and Kurt Vile, The Shuffle with The White Stripes and Phoenix in The Mix-Up.  See you at 10!
