Question of the Day: Impersonating Whom?

by Corny O'Connell

Would you pay money to see an Elvis impersonator? No? Well, who would you pay to see impersonated? It could be an individual or a band - and we don't mean a cover band. We're talking a full-on impersonation. Look beyond the hokeyness of it all and imagine a sincere and nuanced impersonation. Leave your suggestion in the comments below and we'll spin a set this morning.

Here's what we played:

Billie Holiday "What a Little Moonlight Can Do"

Roy Orbison "Only the Lonely"

Janis Joplin "Down on Me"

From the FUV Vault: Lost In The Trees

by Russ Borris

When I first heard the album A Church That Fits Our Needs from Lost in the Trees, I was blown away by the beauty of the music and honesty of the lyrics.  The North Carolina band is filled with some of the most skilled musicians we've ever had in Studio A and their session was really impressive.  The videos are great, too!  We'll air this session tonight at 9 on WFUV, but you can also listen to it anytime you want by clicking here

Jammin' Divas - Sunday Breakfast - 2013

by John Platt

When Irish-born Aoife Clancy (daughter of Bobby Clancy of The Clancy Brothers) met the young Australian singer-songwriter Kath Buckell in Israel, they hit it off, and Aoife told Kath to look her up if she ever moved to the U.S. A couple years later, Kath did just that, and one night they teamed up with Rhode Island singer-songwriter Becky Chace for a concert that had instant chemistry. Soon the Israeli flutist Hadar Noiberg joined them, and The Jammin' Divas became a group, which draws on their diverse backgrounds and exquisite harmonies.
