WFUV's New Multi-Platform Music Service
WFUV in New York City has an extremely rare opportunity to join one of the nation's premier contemporary music radio services. WFUV is seeking a tech-saavy music lover to oversee new HD Radio and web service focused on independent music. Must be engaged with New York City's new music scene, including deep knowledge of artists, venues and music sites.
Oversees all music-related areas of service to insure the highest quality programming. Strives to create a rich and relatable, listener-focused service which reflects the taste and lifestyle of its audience, as well as the city's unique energy, talent, creativity and intelligence, in accord with station mission.
Reports to: WFUV Program Director; secondarily to Music Director
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all content of radio and web operation.
- Host daily airshift.
- Oversee music programming to insure consistent quality, including musical selections.
- Provides staff leadership; manages full and part time staff.
- Manage music library and database, working to insure significant diversity within the selected musical styles included in format.
- Audition new releases for possible airplay; maintain music submissions database, and handle tracking calls and e-mail.
- Assemble daily music logs, export to automation system, reconcile, and post playlists on web.
- Serve as liason between station and record labels, and prepare playlists for distribution to trades.
- Manage web site, including user-generated music content.
- Provide daily content to web site and blogs, including writing, audio and video.
- Maintain WFUV and FCC standards and policies.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Host artist interviews as needed.
- Schedule and administer staff meetings.
- Assist in development of programming strategies for station fundraising.
- Participate in fundraising during membership drives, and assist with additional fundraisers on request.
- Assume leading role in planning and producing station events.
- Represent WFUV at concerts and station events.
- Provide backup for Tech Director.
- Other responsibilities, as needed.
SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED
- Demonstrated knowledge of new, independent music with special emphasis on New York City music scene and venues.
- Requires 3-5 years experience in radio, new media/podcasting or related field; comfortable in multi-platform media environment; appropriate college degree.
- Knowledge of Selector or similar music scheduling software and AudioVault or similar automation systems.
- Requires familiarity with technical aspects of blogs, creation and posting of RSS feeds & podcasts, and handling/transfer of audio & video files. Capable of interpreting information about blog readership and cross-linking.
- Experience with Content Management Systems.
- Consistent and detail-oriented in entering data for web site pages.
- Must possess experience in managing staff and strong leadership skills.
- Music industry, on-air and new media experience a plus.
- Must be creative, innovative and adaptive.
- Strong multi-tasking and time management skills.
- Extremely detail oriented.
- Excellent personal communication skills.
- Ability to work under deadline.
- Ability to accept supervision.
- Ability to work with professional and student staff in a collaborative environment.

Must be engaged with New York City's new music scene, including deep knowledge of artists, venues and music sites.
Oversees technical aspects of service to insure the highest quality programming. Strives to create a rich and relatable, listener-focused service which reflects the taste and lifestyle of its audience, as well as the city's unique energy, talent, creativity and intelligence, in accord with station mission.
Reports to: Content Director; secondarily to Director of Technical Operations
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage technical aspects of radio and web operations.
- Host daily airshift.
- Provide technical training and support for air staff.
- Manage automation system and related duties.
- Import daily music and traffic logs.
- Pre-check and reconcillation of daily AVAir/AVScheduler logs.
- Work with air staff to meet deadlines.
- Upload programming to audio archives.
- Provide daily content to station site and blogs, including writing, audio and video.
- Produce recorded promotion elements.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Host artist interviews as needed.
- Maintain WFUV and FCC standards and policies.
- Assist in development of programming strategies for station fundraising.
- Participate in fundraising during membership drives, and assist with additional fundraisers on request.
- Represent WFUV at concerts and station events.
- Provide backup for Content Director.
- Work with Operations staff to manage new service remotely and respond to emergencies.
- Other responsibilities, as needed.
SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED
- Demonstrated knowledge of new, independent music with special emphasis on New York City music scene and venues.
- Requires 3-5 years experience in radio, new media/podcasting or related field; comfortable in multi-platform media environment; and appropriate college degree.
- Experience working in a studio environment; experience with SAS audio equipment a plus.
- Experience with radio automation systems, voicetracking and music scheduling systems; AudioVault and Selector knowledge a plus.
- Experience with Content Management Systems.
- Consistent and detail-oriented in data entering for web site pages.
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS site construction.
- Requires familiarity with technical aspects of blogs, creation and posting of RSS feeds & podcasts, and handling/transfer of audio & video files.
- Facility with image, audio and video-editing software for a variety of file formats.
- Music industry and on-air experience a plus.
- Must possess experience in managing staff and strong leadership skills.
