Chet Faker

This Australian artist with the memorable name specializes in what you might call "baby-making music." His sound is dreamy and romantic, his songs are melodic and beautiful. Chet Faker, whose real name is Nick Murphy, took the pseudonym as homage to one of his big influences, Chet Baker. He's a gifted songwriter, and although he's mostly seen as an electronica artist, his songs hold up to acoustic performances.  He's already a big star at home Down Under; let's see if 2015 brings him more US fans. Chet Faker - FUV Live - 2014

by Alisa Ali

Australian musician Nicholas Murphy, a.k.a. Chet Faker, first came to our attention in 2011 when he released his great cover of Blackstreet's "No Diggity." A year later, he put out a dreamy EP called Thinking in Textures, and this year sees the release of his full-length debut, Built on Glass. The new album has a chill, rhythm and blues vibe with some electronics thrown into the mix, but when he stopped by Studio A it was just him and a piano. I also got a chance to talk with Nicholas about the making of the new album for this episode of FUV Live.
