Daniel Lanois

Daniel Lanois - FUV Live - 2014

by Darren DeVivo
Daniel Lanois not only established himself in the '80s as a renowned singer and songwriter, but also as one of rock's most influential producers thanks to his work with U2. Lanois collaborated with the Irish superstars on six albums, including The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree. He was the producer or co-producer for acclaimed albums by Bob Dylan (Oh Mercy, Time Out Of Mind), Peter Gabriel (So, Us, the Birdy soundtrack), Robbie Robertson (his self-titled solo debut album) and the Neville Brothers (Yellow Moon). Over the past 25 years, Lanois has brought his magical sonic innovations to albums by Emmylou Harris, Luscious Jackson, Willie Nelson and Neil Young. Every so often, Daniel takes time to create his own music. His first album was 1989's wonderful Acadie and now he presents his latest offering, Flesh And Machine.

Combine the country-rock roots of Emmylou Harris and the innovative production style of Daniel Lanois, and the result is the standout album, 'Wrecking Ball.' It was released in 1995, and that year Rita Houston welcomed both Harris and Lanois to 'FUV to talk about and perform songs from the record.
