Lissie - FUV Live - 2013

by Rita Houston

We were big fans of Lissie's debut EP, Why You Runnin', and we brought her into the station to do a session with us back in 2009. Her 2010 full length album, Catching a Tiger, made our Best of 2010 Staff Picks, as well as our Best of 2010 Listener Poll.

We recently caught up with her at SXSW, and last month she performed a live concert at The Cutting Room, where she debuted some of the new songs from her forthcoming record, tentatively titled Back To Forever. She also played some of her older songs too. Listen and watch here.

WFUV at SXSW: Lissie at Hotel San Jose

by Laura Fedele

Stopping at the Hotel San Jose to do an amped-up set at the free SXSJ (South by San Jose) compound – she had some extra energy to burn after her big set at Stubb’s was cut short the night before – Lissie (@LissieMusic) came by backstage to chat with her WFUV friends. From here she was headed over to play at Perez Hilton’s party, which is doubtless the fewest number of separations we’d ever been from Perez Hilton.

Lissie - Words and Music - 2009

Lissie got her start opening for Lenny Kravitz, when he checked out her MySpace page. Now, she's been touring with Ray LaMontagne, and has just released an EP called, 'Why You Runnin.' Recently, she stopped by studio-A for a session with FUV's Alisa Ali. (11/10/09)

Lissie's music is usually described as folk or Americana, but if you listen closely-especially to her covers of artists like Lady Gaga, Nelly Furtado, and Kid Cudi-you'll hear a lot of other influences too, along with a very powerful set of vocal cords. Lissie's full-length debut album Catching A Tiger is out now, and 'FUV's Alisa Ali talked with her backstage at a recent show at Manhattan's Hiro Ballroom.
