Hear an FUV Live session with Daniel Lanois tonight at 9.

Daniel Lanois not only established himself in the '80s as a renowned singer and songwriter, but also as one of rock's most influential producers thanks to his work with U2. Lanois collaborated with the Irish superstars on six albums, including The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree. He was the producer or co-producer for acclaimed albums by Bob Dylan (Oh Mercy, Time Out Of Mind), Peter Gabriel (So, Us, the Birdy soundtrack), Robbie Robertson (his self-titled solo debut album) and the Neville Brothers (Yellow Moon). Over the past 25 years, Lanois has brought his magical sonic innovations to albums by Emmylou Harris, Luscious Jackson, Willie Nelson and Neil Young. Every so often, Daniel takes time to create his own music. His first album was 1989's wonderful Acadie and now he presents his latest offering, Flesh And Machine.

Flesh And Machine is an ambient, instrumental album that is reminiscent of his ground breaking work with Brian Eno. When Daniel visited WFUV recently, he chose to perform a new composition targeted for his next album, as well as a three-song medley that included something from Flesh And Machine. To make the session even sweeter was the fact jazz drummer Brian Blade and guitarist/bassist Jim Wilson (formerly of the Rollins Band) joined Daniel in the studio. I first had a chance to speak with Daniel on WFUV back in 1993 and it was a pleasure getting to hang out with him once again.
