Covering a Van Morrison song put her on the map in 1975, and ever since, Patti Smith has never shied from adding her own punk rock poetry to the words of others. Now, the entire album Twelve is devoted to some of her favorite lyricists, and I got the backstory when Patti, Jackson Smith, and Lenny Kaye visited Studio A.
