Info/Help: Live AAC Plus
Questions and answers about our 64K streaming options for our WFUV On-Air and FUV 24/7 All Music channels.
What you need and how it works:
You need:
(a) An AAC player - The best are WinAmp for Windows and VLC Player for Mac.
(b) A HIGH-SPEED Internet connection (Cable Modem, DSL, ISDN, T1 and up).
If you have trouble, first read the notices on our Listen Live page - we'll post any system problems there.
Just the FAQs:
What's AAC Plus?
It's a new Internet audio format that provides CD-quality Web streaming using much less bandwidth - AAC Plus delivers better-than-CD-quality stereo at 64 kbps.
What players are compatible with AAC Plus?
Windows:
WinAmp version 5.08 and up
Mac OS X or higher:
VLC Media Player
For VLC Media Player, Under the File menu, select 'Open Network Stream' then select "HTTP/FTP/MMS", and paste this in:
http://www.wfuv.org/audio/wfuvaac.pls
Why can't I use iTunes?
Even though iTunes saves files in AAC format, it can't currently play AAC Plus streams. The first three letters may be the same, but AAC Plus is very different from normal AAC. We expect it to be possible soon.
What if VLC is looping the intro message infinitely?
This is an issue with the VLC playlist. In the VLC application, from the menu bar select "View" and then "Playlist." Click the second item in the playlist to access the stream.
What if another audio player tries to open the stream?
- Copy the desired URL:

- VLC:
- For VLC Media Player, Under the File menu, select 'Open Network Stream' then select "HTTP/FTP/MMS", and paste this in:
