Info/Help: Live MP3
Questions and answers about WFUV's 56K and 128K streaming options for our WFUV On-Air and FUV 24/7 All Music channels.
The ABC's of MP3 Streaming:
You need:
(a) An MP3 player - There are several to choose from, read below
(b) A HIGH-SPEED Internet connection (Cable Modem, DSL, ISDN, T1 and up).
Just the FAQs:
What's an MP3?
Some MP3 files are downloadable, sharable, saveable - not ours. This is a
STREAMING MP3, for connecting to and listening, not saving.
Is it legal?
Yes - it's just a file format, which can be used legally or illegally. Music ownership is governed by copyright law, to protect the intellectual property of the creators (musicians). We have agreements with publishing companies and the record industry that allow us to stream (NOT offer for download) the music we play, under
certain conditions.
MP3 Players:
You need to download and install something besides Windows Media Player. There's no such thing as a complete list of MP3 players - pick what you're comfortable with. Our favorites are iTunes and WinAmp.
- For Windows 95 and up try
WinAmp,
iTunes,
MusicMatch,
Xaudio,
freeAMP,
or the Microsoft Media Player (included in Windows).
- For Mac try iTunes,
MacAmp,
or MacAmp Lite.
- For Linux, FreeBSD, SunOS and other Unix try XMMS, Xaudio, or mpg123, among others.
