Austin City Limits Music Festival

by Janeen Shaitelman
In the media area for a broadcast with the Avett Brothers

Although my last name, unfortunately, is not a Texas town, I too am doing ACL, FUV-style!! Day one was amazing. Hung out with the Avett Brothers and talked about how all the touring is kind of new to them (their new CD is really taking off... its beautiful) and how they are loving the fans.

Others I loved yesterday: Medeski, Martin and Wood (great set, appreciative crowd), Dr. Dog, Raphael Saadiq -really worked the crowd and kept folks dancing, Phoenix (I was dying to see this set.. It was good!),  The Greencards, Theivery Corporation (so many influences - such a great result) and an old favorite of mine, Los Amigos Invisibles.. Their audience seemed to be the rowdiest of the night - with the exception for Kings of Leon.. That set was amazing and energenic.

Also, on the plane to Austin, we sat next to Claudio Sanchez from Coheed and Cambria.. We compared the trials of curly hair.  I heard their set, but was more behind the stage area for that one..

I missed as much as I wanted to see,  it seems.  But I am heading out today with the goal of seeing bands that are new to me as well as people I already love.  Ready for rain and alot of music..  Can’t wait to compare notes with Rita and catch:  Bell X1, Grizzly Bear, Citizen Cope, Bon Iver, STS9, Mos Def, Levon Helm.
