How about the theme song from the 1980s PBS program “Electric Company?”

I’ll be in the car so I won’t hear the songs (sniff).

I’m taking the liberties your giving us today, then.

How ’bout “Hotel California” – Eagles (you get it – building hotels on properties)
    Pushing the envelope today!

Along the same lines, I’m taking the shoe thing to the limit. I’m usually the “shoe” piece.
Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes – Paul Simon
Who Wears These Shoes – Elton John

    Atlantic City – Bruce Springsteen

Under the Boardwalk – the Drifters

Guess we’re gonna be all over the place on this one today!!
    I’ll enjoy the results!
Thanks, as always for the best start to the morning ever!

I remember playing monopoly when I was a kid and nobody wanted to be the banker (What did we know, I’d love to be the Banker now) and everybody wanted to be the boot.

    So, I submit

    Banker’s Blues by Rory Gallagher

Boots and Hearts by The Tragically Hip

And we can’t forget Jail. There are lots of jail songs, but for an oddball choice there is

Hello Dad, I’m in Jail by Was Not Was

  11. Liz on November 5th, 2009

    Jail?

    Victim of Life’s Circumstances

    Folsom Prison blus

You probably already received this one, but how about Bruce Sprinsgsteen’s Atlantic City from the Live in Dublin album?

  15. Derek on November 5th, 2009

    “atlantic city” by Bruce.

  16. Chris on November 5th, 2009

How about “Under the Boardwalk” by the Drifters or the Stones from their 12 by 5 album.
and for that unfortunate roll of the dice, you’re “In the Jailhouse Now” by the Soggy Bottom Boys, from the soundtrack of “Oh Brother Where Art Thou”.

“Sandy” by Springsteen for it’s boardwalk references.
“Holiday Hotel” by Loggins and Messina
Maybe even Ella Fitzgerald doing “Let’s go slumming on Park Avenue”, for a different genera.

    Way to go Yankees!

In my house when we would play Monopoly and someone pulled the card that said “you have one second prize in a beauty contest”, someone would always say, “and that’s only cause Mom was the judge” ……

“Atlantic City”….Bruce, but I like the Band’s version better

    “Tennessee Jed” Dead or Levon

“Big Rail Road Blues” Noah Lewis

    “Illinois” Dan Fogelberg

    “Under the Boardwalk” The Drifters

    That’s all I got….

  18. Chris on November 5th, 2009

    Just found these songs:

    “Monopoly” by Richard Berman

“The Monopoly Song” by Frank Sidebottom

  19. David on November 5th, 2009

Phil Ochs’ “Outside of a Small Circle of Friends” actually mentions playing Monopoly.

Beyond all the railroad and boardwalk songs, there’s “St. James Infirmary Blues” (done by numerous artists), “I’m in the Jailhouse Now” by the Soggy Bottom Boys (“O Brother Where Art Thou” soundtrack) among others, The Beatles’ “Taxman” (in honor of “Income Tax” and “Luxury Tax”) and the Rolling Stones’ (or Linda Ronstadt’s) “Tumbling Dice.”
I don’t suppose you could dig up the opening theme to the original “Electric Company” PBS show.

Isn’t everyone submitting Under the Boardwalk? Or, am I dating myself? I would make a joke about Geezer Rock, but it’s too close for comfort.

I love Monopoly, have played it most of my life (along with Scrabble and Risk).

    * “Theme from The Sopranos” – recall that great fight between Tony and Bobby…they were playing Monopoly and Tony ended up with a hotel stuck to his face after the fight. (And the following song figured prominently in how the fight started.)
    * “Under The Boardwalk” – The Drifters
    * “City of New Orleans” – Steve Goodman (it’s a stretch, but there are 4 railroads in the game and I really like the song. J).
    * “Hotel California” – The Eagles
    * “Our House” – Madness
