The Bottomless Pit With Marshall Crenshaw For September 28

by Marshall Crenshaw

I hope you'll tune in this Saturday night at 10 for what will mostly be a Book Club Edition of The Bottomless Pit. The book in question is Peppermint Twist: The Mob, The Music, and the Most Famous Dance Club of the '60s by John Johnson, Jr. and Joel Selvin with Dick Cami. This book is hard-hitting and action-packed. It also rocks, kicks a** and is fun to read.

Musically, we'll hear lots of great Twist-era R&R by Gary U.S. Bonds, Rod McKuen, King Curtis, Johnny Hallyday, Mina and more. Elsewhere on the show I'll have a re-cap of my trip to the Detroit Jazz Festival, with music by Karriem Riggins, Gaye Lynn McKinne, and Bill Frisell. And there'll be some new music by the great Valerie June.

All that and much more on The Bottomless Pit with me, Marshall Crenshaw, Saturday night at 10 p.m. EDT on 90.7FM WFUV and streaming online. If you miss a show, you can always catch up to The Bottomless Pit in the FUV archives for up to two weeks after broadcast.
