New Music Monday Catches Up With Red Headed Stranger

by Josh Briseno

New Music Monday is a collection of the best new releases in music each week. We share them with you every Monday, every hour on WFUV.

Willie Nelson- “Just Breathe”

Willie delivers this hauntingly urgent cover of Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe.” As if Willie knows his time is near and eager to have the Nelson name live on we are introduced to his eldest son Lukas Nelson. The father and son combo turn the song into more than just a farewell letter, it becomes a guide for the future.

Kimbra- “Settle Down”

“Settle Down” seems to be an appropriate response to the immediate fame that Kimbra has experienced since her appearance on Gotye’s smash hit “Someone That I Used To Know.”. The song talks about the future hope of slowing things down and appreciating the simple things in life.

Lisa Marie Presley- “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”

Storm & Grace, Lisa Marie’s new album due May 15, will be the first new music from the singer in seven years. The first track, produced by T-Bone Burnett, reintroduces us to the charmingly dark voice of the King’s daughter.

Emily Wells- Mama

Emily Wells has long been on the verge of busting onto the indie scene. Her latest record entitled Mama, which Wells produced, draws inspiration from all types of music but it’s the two tracks in the middle about mothers that will have everyone coming back for more motherly love.

The White Buffalo- Once Upon a Time in the West

Be ready to be transformed back to when America was young. The West was untamed, Whiskey was medicine, and people took pride in their work. Jake Smith delivers all this and more as The White Buffalo. Get ready to blaze the Appalachian trail with this talented songwriter.
