New Music Monday: David Byrne and St. Vincent

by John Stein

New Music Monday is a collection of the best new releases in music each week. We share them with you every Monday, every hour on WFUV.

David Byrne and St. Vincent - “Who”

David Byrne (of Talking Heads fame) and St. Vincent (coming off the fantastic album Strange Mercy) team up for this new track and a forthcoming record. The song interestingly combines the sound of both artists.

Cat Power - “Cherokee”

After a typically long hiatus, Chan Marshall is set to release a new record of original songs, entitled Sun. “Cherokee” shows off her songwriting chops and a slightly less minimal style than her previous work.

Jimmy Cliff - “One More”

Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff has still got it. Cliff brought reggae from Jamaica to the world, and he continues to do so. This track comes from his new album, Rebirth.

Hacienda - Shakedown

The members of this band are all related, brothers and cousins, and now they’re related to Black Keys front man Dan Auerbach, as he produced their new album. This album is clearly centered on the music first, and Dan knows how to bring that out.

The Heavy - “What Makes A Good Man?”

The Heavy is a dirty band. This raucous new song doesn’t stray far from their previous work, but embodies the dirty soul niche they’ve made for themselves.
