New Music Monday is a collection of the best new releases in music each week. We share them with you every Monday, every hour on WFUV.

JD McPherson- “Twinkle (Little Christmas Lights)”

The ex-schoolteacher has had an awesome year with the release of his hugely popular, rockabilly debut, Sings and Signifiers. It’s definitely a good idea to end it with a scrappy little Christmas song like this.

Tracey Thorn- Tinsel and Lights

Like all good Christmas music, this album seems to transcend the genre. It probably helps that the record contains songs written by Jack White, Ron Sexsmith, Joni Mitchell, and more.

Catie Curtis- A Catie Curtis Christmas

The acclaimed singer-songwriter recorded this album on the eve of two different White House performances in December of 2010 and 2011. If it got Obama in the holiday spirit, we thought we should give it a try too!

Gary U.S. Bonds- Christmas is On!

Bonds has achieved success in 5 different decades, and now he’s kicking off his 6th with this new holiday album, why should it go differently?

The Polyphonic Spree- Holidaydream

This band has never been afraid to take chances; they often wear flowing robes onstage and have up to 20 full time members. Yet this new album actually feels surprising, as it’s comprised completely of Christmas covers.

Various Artists- Holidays Rule

This new record is the holiday compilation of the year. It features classic Christmas covers by Paul McCartney, Rufus Wainwright, Calexico, The Civil Wars, Punch Brothers, The Head and the Heart, Andrew Bird, and more.
