New Music Monday Gets International

New Music Monday is a collection of the best new releases in music each week. We share them with you every Monday, every hour on WFUV.

Camera Obscura- “Do It Again”

Singer Tracyanne Campbell has one of the prettiest, most unique voices in the game. This new track her Scottish band Camera Obscura proves they've further honed their sound to work around her vocals. Really nice stuff from a consistently great band.

Kurt Vile- Wakin on a Pretty Daze

Vile has been an indie rock hero for years now, and with this new album we think it's time we paid him his dues at FUV. His mix of lo-fi rock and indie folk is extremely distinct; give the Philadelphia musician a chance and we guarantee he’ll be a new favorite.

Ewert & The Two Dragons- “Good Man Down”

We might not hear a lot about Estonia over here, but now we’re going to hear something from Estonia in the form of Ewert & the Two Dragons. The band’s album was the number one selling in Estonia two years in a row – now it’s time the rest of the world paid attention.

Portugal. The Man- “Purple Yellow Red and Blue”

This is one of those bands that tend to be incredibly difficult to pin down stylistically. What we definitely know is that this tasty new song combines psychedelic rock, pop and more to great results.

Tom Odell- Songs From Another Love

Piano-based singer-songwriter Tom Odell sounds like a mix between Jeff Buckley and fellow countryman Elton John. There’s nothing wrong with comparisons to those guys, and we suspect that Odell wouldn’t mind himself; he calls both of them large influences.

Treetop Flyers- The Mountain Moves

It’s hard not to think that these guys are just another British band cashing in on Mumford & Sons style folk-pop. And maybe they are, but the charming vocals and strong musicianship make these guys just as irresistible as Mumford.

Various- “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County” Soundtrack

“Ghost Brothers…” is a musical written by Stephen King with original songs by John Mellencamp. The stacked soundtrack was produced by T Bone Burnett and features Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Roseanne Cash and more covering songs from the show. Not much else we need to say… It’s hard to make a more interesting release.
