Advocates pushing Cuomo to boost homelessness initiatives

by

(AP) - Advocates for the homeless say there are more people living in shelters across New York state than ever before and they're calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to do more to address the problem.  Homeless New Yorkers will join state lawmakers and advocates Monday at the Capitol to bring attention to the issue and discuss legislative initiatives aimed at alleviating homelessness.

Cuomo has pledged billions of dollars in state funding for affordable housing, shelters and rental subsidies. But critics of the Democrat's efforts say it's not clear where the funding is going and how many homeless people are being housed under his plan. Advocates say nearly 90,000 people are being housed in homeless shelters across the state.
