The Anna/Kate Band creation story cites "two queers and a ukelele" — two theatre majors, Anna Gothard and Kate Foster, meeting in New York City and creating dramatic songs that could be played on that most portable of instruments. Over time they added bass, guitar, drums, and cello and became a full-fledged band.

Their debut album, How to Hold, contains songs that are both personal and political, reflecting the #MeToo and Black Lives Matter zeitgeist, but also embracing the liberating power of love. Gothard and Foster offered a stripped-down performance in Studio A, accompanied by guitarist Kelly House, in advance of their full-band set on Tuesday, June 12, at Rockwood Music Hall as part of On Your Radar.
