Artists Unite Across Nation in Inauguration Day Protests

Some museums and theaters throughout New York City are closing their doors on Inauguration Day.

Cultural institutions throughout New York City will be closed in solidarity with protestors who are taking a stand against some of the policies that Donald Trump stands for.  Deborah Cullen is the director and chief curator at the Wallach Art Gallery at Columbia University. She says her gallery is closed so some employees can attend protests in D.C.

Cullen says, “I think we are concerned about our environment, in the broad sense and in the political sense. And we want to have the time to participate in any group activities that we deem necessary.”

But some institutions are taking a different approach. Museums such as the New York Historical Society are waiving their admission fees on Inauguration Day to foster unity and spark discussion.
