Bronx Subways Get Low Grades for Cleanliness
Bronx subway stations are rated the dirtiest in the city, according to a new MTA report.
Some Bronx subway riders are heated over station conditions and it's not because of a lack of air conditioning.
A new MTA report rates the Bronx worst for cleanliness and appearance at 78.5%, while other boroughs like Queens scored as high as 86.4%.
Subway riders at Fordham Road said the station is decaying, filthy, and literally stinks. "They should do a better job with the maintenance in the Bronx," said rider Joel Cabrere.
Other riders, like Ira Herschaft, say they're tired of the griminess. "We should ride in cleanliness," he said. "We shouldn't be riding in miserable, horrible ways."
MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz said the agency has already rehabbed a number of stations, is working on 9 more, and plans to get to others when the money becomes available.
