Community says 'No way' to SoHa

Community members and lawmakers united against the possible re-naming of South Harlem to "SoHa" on Monday.

State Senator Brian Benjamin has introduced the Neighborhood Integrity Act. The legislation would essentially create a community re-naming process. Community members said real estate companies are attempting to re-brand the area to attract wealthier residents.

"We need to address things differently from the community perspective," Harlem resident Joy Williams said.

She moved to Harlem in 1999 and said change is happening all the time, but it is all about how the neighborhood decides to deal with it.
