A Distinct Advantage for Incumbents

Most incumbents in congressional races in New York enjoy an advantage over their opponents - they've raised more money. According to, incumbents have received more donations than challengers in 26 out of 28 races.

Dave Levinthal, with the Center for Responsive Politics, says despite some anti-incumbent fervor, history shows challengers will struggle to get elected.  Levinthal said, "you'd see re-election rates in the 80%, so definitely very, very high. We're not talking about dozens and dozens of incumbents losing their office. That effectively never happens." New York's primaries are September 14th. The general election is November 2nd.
