DOT Aims To Reduce Car Accidents Around Construction Sites
With road construction season here, New York state officials are promoting work zone safety. The state's Department of Transportation is teaming up with state police and construction workers to tell people to follow New York's Move Over Law.
According to DOT spokesman Adam Levine, the newly expanded law requires motorists to slow down and move over if they see stopped emergency or construction vehicles with red flashing lights.
"Don't barrel through a work zone, drive smart to arrive alive. It's good for the safety of motorists, it’s good for the safety of the passengers, it's good for the safety of our workers, and it's the law," said Levine.
Most of the nearly 400 accidents last year resulted from people driving too fast.
Levine says officials are already seeing results from the campaign.
