We first met Elle King back in 2014 when she played our CMJ showcase. We were big fans of the song "Ex's and Oh's" from her debut album, Love Stuff, and were playing it a lot on FUV. Soon many other stations followed suit, and the single began charting in commercial formats. It even garnered King a couple of Grammy nominations.

King's new album seems to have the right stuff as well; it's filled with raw and rootsy songs that channel heartbreak and self-acceptance. King says that when she was recording the songs, she would feel herself literally shaking, and that gave her the idea to call the record Shake The Spirit.

During this episode of FUV Live, she shares the backstory behind specific songs and plays us a blistering set of new music in Studio A.
