Erin Rae at WFUV

Erin Rae describes her music as stuck between folk and an indie place. Her insightful, honest lyrics and strong melodies drive her songs and have made Rae a bit of local hero at home in Nashville.

She's originally from Jackson, Tennessee and grew up around music performing with her folk-singing parents. Her new album, Putting On Airs, is out on now on Single Lock Records, an indie label out of Florence, Alabama that was founded by John Paul White of Civil Wars.

The indie spirit of Rae's songs come through in her expressive vocals and the hip production of her tunes, produced by Dan Knobler, who has also worked with Lake Street Dive and Rodney Crowell.

On this FUV Live session, Rae spoke to me about her process and the evolution of Putting on Airs.
