Fordham cruises past Boston University in WNIT Round of 32, 58-44
The Rose Hill Gym was rockin’ yet again in the Bronx, and Fordham led the majority of the game in their WNIT Round of 32 win over the Terriers of Boston University. The Rams earned their 26th win of the season, the second most in a campaign in program history (one shy of the program record).
Marah Strickland finished with a game high 14 for Fordham, as the graduate student paced Fordham’s offensive attack. Arielle Collins, with a perfect 8-for-8 performance at the line, and Erin Rooney, who played with four fouls for the final 10 minutes, each poured in 12. Fordham’s lead ballooned to 15 in the closing minutes, as the team traded buckets down the stretch. The defense was tenacious – holding Boston University to just 19 first half points.
Fordham also got big performances from Charlotte Stoddart, who pulled down 7 caroms off the bench and Abigail Corning, who finished with 6 points, a team high 4 assists, and 6 rebounds.
The Rams Sweet Sixteen pairing is in flux over the next two days. The winner of James Madison and North Carolina State will be the opponent, but the location and date are to be determined. Coach Gaitley says during the press conference posted below that the team did not put in a bid to host the third round, but after the game announced that her team had, indeed, placed their hat in the ring. Information will be forthcoming after the JMU v. NC State game tomorrow – be sure to check WomensNIT.com or FordhamSports.com for the latest scheduling information.
Either way, the Rams will be playing in the third round of the WNIT no earlier than this coming Wednesday, and WFUV will cover the action from tip to final buzzer.
