Fordham Routs Lock Haven in Opener
Rams put up 55 points in Joe Moorhead's debut
Fordham (1-0) was in control early in their home opener at Jack Coffey Field. Head Coach Joe Moorhead got his first win coaching his alma mater, the Rams football program got their 750th of all-time, and Fordham opened their season in style with a 55-0 win over Lock Haven (0-1).
Fordham finished with 21 points in the first quarter alone, and totaled 301 yards of total offense in the opening half. By comparison, the Fordham offense averaged just 315 yards per game on offense last season. The Rams racked up 26 first downs, finished with 265 yards in the air and an identical 265 on the ground.
The battle at quarterback between Michael Nebrich and Ryan Higgins seems to have brought the best out of both players in the opener. Nebrich totaled three touchdowns on the ground and added a touchdown toss to Greg Wilson. Senior Ryan Higgins was in control during his time on the field, scampering for the game’s opening score and adding a touchdown through the air. Higgins finished with 229 yards passing, while Nebrich threw for 36 yards and ran for 58 more.
The signal callers did a great job of spreading the wealth to the offensive skill players. Carlton Koonce carried for 146 yards and freshman Jared Crayton picked up 54 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Nick Talbert caught eight balls for a game high 105 yards. Greg Wilson caught two touchdown passes and finished with 68 yards, while Sam Ajala grabbed four passes for 65 yards.
On defense, Mike Martin was all over the field for the home team. Martin finished with a team high nine tackles, including two for a loss. DeAndre slate added six tackles including two for a loss, and Ian Williams snagged an interception and racked up six tackles.
