Fordham Scrapes By Rhode Island, 66-63
Travion Leonard (2) goes for the tip-in.
Fordham used the crowd, and some veteran leadership to propel them a 66-63 victory over Rhode Island on Saturday at the Rose Hill Gym. Like the last home game the Rams played against UMass, the battle of the Rams went right down the wire and foul shooting was the key.
Only this time, Fordham walked away with a win. Branden Frazier, with Chris Gaston out for a second straight game with a knee injury, took over and sank 11 of 13 shots from the stripe to seal the win. Still, it wasn't an easy win for Fordham. They trailed by one at the half and found themselves in a rare double bonus situation with about 14 minutes remaining in the second half.
Fordham dominated the battle in the paint, another huge element of this win. They outscored URI 28-16 down low with big contributions from Travion Leonard and Ryan Rhoomes who had 11 rebounds.
With the win, the Rams improve to 2-3 in Atlantic 10 play, and 6-14 overall this season. They will next be in action Wednesday at home against St. Joe's at 7 PM. The One on One pregame report will air at 6:55 on both 90.7 FM and WFUVSports.org!
