FUV's Russ Borris bridges the sartorial splendor of Prince and flannel-shirted Soundgarden in his Five Favorite Concerts.

During the 2014 FUV fall member drive, we're shining a spotlight on live concerts and performances. The FUV on-air staffers compiled individual lists of five memorable and marvelous shows that have stayed with them over the years, for one reason or another.

Russ Borris's Five Favorite Concerts (Host of The Alternate Side and FUV's music director):

Prince, Madison Square Garden (2004):
Without a doubt, the best show I've ever seen. A three-hour party paused in the middle for a 45 minute solo acoustic set in the middle of Madison Square Garden. Unreal. (check out an earlier Prince show, from 1982, below)

Neil Diamond, Madison Square Garden (2008):
A showman and a pro who has written some of the best songs of all time. FUV engineer Jim O'Hara and I were easily the youngest people there, but that didn't limit the lovefest.

Bruce Springsteen, Shea Stadium, Queens (2003):
Hard to argue with the setting here. Bringing the Jersey to the house that Kranepool built, it merged my love of baseball and music in one night. Plus, there was the spectacle of a Bob Dylan appearance.

Lollapalooza II, Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA (1992):
An all-day affair at a ski resort in Scranton, PA, that featured Pearl Jam in its early days, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Ice Cube, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden and more. Although it was outdoors, I still maintain that Soundgarden set was the loudest I've ever heard at a concert.

Metallica, Meadowlands (1992):
While many of us have lost Metallica to Armani, you can't deny their live show. I don't regret the sore neck I had the next day from all the headbanging that took place that night. I was a teenager; it's what you do at a metal show.
