Americans are spending more money on Halloween this year than they have in previous years. A survey by the National Retail Federation finds $8.4 billion will be spent on costumes, candy and decorations. NRF spokeswoman Ana Serafin Smith says there's one age group in particular behind the growth.

"Millenials are the ones that are driving this large interest in Halloween. They're leaning on social media to get inspiration for their costumes as well as ideas for how to throw the best Halloween parties," says Serefin Smith.

On average, Americans plan to spend $82.93 for Halloween, with most of the money being used to buy candy.
