Director talks film career, college football, and his native Miami

If you are a sports fan that loves controversial and underexplored stories and topics then you must get to know the work of documentarian Billy Corben. A longtime resident of Miami, Florida, Corben has directed and produced several engaging and mesmerizing films that look into the often dark and hidden underworlds and cultures of college sports, drugs, and money. His biggest features to date are Cocaine Cowboys, The U, and Broke, the latter most recently premiering last fall as part of ESPN’s ongoing crop of “30 for 30” features. Corben joined DJ and I over the phone to discuss his career and today’s still fervent topics that his films portray through the lens of both Miami and the entire the country.
