The Islanders are Returning to Long Island

When Long Island's Nassau Coliseum closed for renovation in 2015, the Islanders moved their puch drop to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Last month, plans were announced for a new arena at Belmont Park, but it won't be finished for another three years. In the mean time, the Islanders will play half their games at Barclays Center and half at Nassau Coliseum for the next three seasons. At an event at the coliseum Monday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the Islander's return is symbolic of the economic and infrastructural redevelopment of Nassau County.

"The Islanders coming back to Long Island is like the cherry on the cake," said the governor.

Nassau Coliseum will need some modifications to meet NHL standards. The first game back on the island is expected to be in September or October.
