Construction work near Long Island Rail Road tracks will cause major rail service disruptions between Hicksville and Mineola next weekend.

The demolition of the Ellison Avenue Bridge in Westbury means that riders on the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches will have to take shuttle buses on May 16-17. Passengers also can use the Babylon, Far Rockaway, Hempstead, Montauk, Port Washington, Oyster Bay or West Hempstead branches during the weekend.

The 1941 bridge runs above the LIRR tracks.

According the Newsday, the agency says an estimated 40,000 passengers will be affected.

The railroad says riders should consult the special May 16-17 weekend branch timetables.
