MTA Finally Quiets Subway Exhaust Fan In Queens
An exhaust fan that kept some Long Island City residents up at night is finally being quieted.
Special equipment is set to be installed on the fan along 50th Avenue the MTA has been using for several months to vent a nearby subway tunnel. Queens Assemblyman Michael Gianaris says the fan is a major nuisance for residents of local high-rise apartments.
"They are literally unable to sleep. It's just an awfully, awfully loud sound right in the middle of a residential neighborhood."
Gianarris was among a group of state and local officials who worked to have the new equipment puchased.
