A new lineup and new jobs here at WFUV

Big news at FUV! Corny O'Connell, who's been holding down the fort in the mornings, has been officially named host of the morning show. Carmel Holt, who's been doing some awesome fill-in work, will join FUV as our full-time midday host and Assistant Music Director, while Darren DeVivo moves to evenings. Last, but not least, Russ Borris has been promoted to Music Director, the position Rita Houston held before becoming Program Director.

Corny came to WFUV in 1989 while he was a student at Fordham Law School. He never practiced law, but he's used his powers of persuasion as the producer of WFUV's membership drives, in addition to his regular air shift. "Corny has really grown into the demanding role of morning show host," says Rita. "He's got a friendly and often funny way to convey all the music and information listeners need to get their day started, including a very creative approach to the Question of the Day."

WFUV is delighted to welcome Carmel, who was raised in Connecticut and holds a degree in music composition and vocal performance from Bard College. She joined the staff of WDST in Woodstock in 1995, working her way up to become the midday host and an award-winning music director there. "To be on the air on my favorite radio station in my favorite city in the world - what could be better?" Carmel enthuses. "I've never played the lottery, but I imagine that this is what winning would feel like."

Longtime FUV DJ Darren DeVivo moves into the evenings. Darren's a much-loved radio personality, known to listeners across WFUV's schedule, most recently as midday host. "We're grateful to Darren for nearly 30 years of contributions to WFUV," says WFUV General Manager Chuck Singleton. "We're excited to bring his talents to a new venue, and share his incomparable music knowledge with evening listeners." (Dennis Elsas continues as the afternoon host from 2-6 p.m.)

Finally, Russ Borris has been promoted to Music Director. Russ came to WFUV in 2001 as Assistant Music Director from WBJB in New Jersey, where he had served as on-air host and Music Director. He's been instrumental in shaping the music mix on both WFUV and The Alternate Side, where you can hear him nightly from 10 pm-12 midnight on 90.7 FM, as well as on weekday mornings on 91.5 FM WNYE and on "Russ has a great ear," says Rita. "I have total confidence in his being the go-to guy at FUV for musicians and people in the music business."
