New York Lawmaker Calls on DOT to Evaluate Westchester Parkways

A New York lawmaker is calling upon the New York State Department of Transportation to evaluate Westchester County's parkways.

Assemblyman Tom Albinanti wants the State Department of Transportation to review the configuration of and signage at the exits and entranceways of the parkways.

He says the request follows a number of recent accidents in Westchester, including one last week when an NYPD detective, Paul Duncan, was killed by a wrong-way driver. Duncan was killed on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh.

"From other drivers, they find the entrance and exits configurations confusing and that the signage is confusing, or in some cases, there is no signage at all," Albinanti says. "Clearly, the configuration and the signage contributes to the problem."

Albinanti says some of the signs are small, unclear, and are not placed in the right locations.

The Assemblyman says a letter has been sent to the Department of Transportation.
