Newport Folk Festival 2014: Friday

Team FUV is back at Fort Adams State Park to transmit molecules of music and pixels of photos across the interwebs back to New York. Friday was an absolutely beautiful day, weather-wise and otherwise. We're here with our friends from NPR Music to send home audio of the main stage sets, which we're archiving in the FUV Vault. We'll keep this page updated as we go.

On the Fort Stage Friday: Ryan Adams, Band of Horses, Jenny Lewis, Devil Makes Three, Anais Mitchell & Jefferson Hamer

We also got to run around and enjoy sets from the other three stages, with highlights from Wisconsin's Phox, our hometown friends Lake Street Dive - who brought their friend Mavis Staples out to sing "Bad Self-Portraits" - and the great Communion Records showcase on the (indoor!) Museum Stage, which included Hozier, Willy Mason and Bear's Den. See the photo gallery below for the emotion, the sweat and tears, the colorful festy getups, and a really cute dog named Annie.

On WFUV and wfuv.org:

Coming up this weekend and headed for the FUV Vault:

  • Saturday: Nickel Creek, Deer Tick, Shovels & Rope, Pokey LaFarge, Aoife O'Donovan
  • Sunday: Mavis Staples, Jeff Tweedy, Conor Oberst, Dawes, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Ages and Ages, The Berklee Gospel Choir

Here is the full festival schedule. Remember to add #SummerofFUV to any pics you post!
