NY Elected Offical Announces Anti-violence Initiative

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino says the nation cannot have another tragedy like the Newtown school shooting.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino wants community leaders to get together to combat violence in schools.

He announced an initiative Wednesday that aims to prevent another tragedy like the Newtown School shooting. The initiative kicks off next Wednesday with a school safety symposium.

Astorino says it will bring police and educators together to brainstorm.

"That's what's going to safe lives. That's what's going to protect children and keep schools safe. If we're all on the same page and know what to expect and how to deal with these things," said Astorino.

The school safety symposium will be held at SUNY Purchase.

The symposium will be followed up on April 9th with a community violence prevention forum at the Westchester County Center.
