NYPIRG Has Some Suggestions For Governor-Elect Cuomo
An advocacy group has some legislative goals for the Governor-elect.
New York Governor-elect Andrew Cuomo enters office in January needing to close to a more than $9 billion budget deficit, the New York Public Interest Research Group says he should deal with some other issues, too .
In a report, the New York Public Interest Research Group proposed 30 executive orders Mr. Cuomo could issue as governor, without help from the State Legislature. The orders cover everything from meeting the state's clean energy goals to campaign finance reform.
NYPIRG's legislative director, Blair Horner, said it could be politically smart to issue the orders. "Success breeds success, and if the governor issues these executive orders, gets positive public feedback, I think it will enhance his ability to negotiate with the Legislature to achieve even better things."
