A Panel to Probe How NJ's Utilities Handled Sandy
Superstorm Sandy and a subsequent nor'easter left more than 3 million homes and businesses without electricity in New Jersey.
The state Senate budget committee on Wednesday will hold a hearing to examine how the state's utilities responded to the storms.
The committee plans to question executives about potential future problems and vulnerabilities. The state's largest utility has said Sandy was the worst storm in its history. Public Service Electric and Gas says it spent as much as $300 million to restore service.
Jersey Central Power & Light is seeking permission to boost its rates by at least 1.4 percent to improve its infrastructure and cope with losses that occurred last year.
