Report Ranks 8 New York City Beaches

New Yorkers may want to be cautious about which beaches they go to this summer. A new review shows that some of the city's beaches are in poor condition.

The report recently released by the organization New Yorkers for Parks ranks the conditions of eight New York City beaches. The study looked at things like maintenance, cleanliness, and safety. Rockaway Beach in Queens got the best rating with an A-, followed by Manhattan Beach with a B+.

Meanwhile, Coney Island in Brooklyn got a C+, and Wolfe's Pond Beach in Staten Island was ranked as the worst with an F. Tupper Thomas, with New Yorkers for Parks, says Wolfe's Pond Beach is littered and losing sand.

"We want people to have a wonderful time when they go to the beach," Thomas says. "They have to be clean."

Liam Kavanagh, with the New York City Parks Department, assures Staten Island beaches like Wolfe's Pond are still safe to swim in.
