Ruben Diaz Jr. Delivers State of the Bronx Address

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. applauded the growth he has seen in the Bronx since he took office, but he said more progress in the borough still has to be made.

In his State of the Borough address, Diaz said nearly 100,000 more Bronx residents are now employed compared to when he took office in 2009. Even though investment has increased in the borough overall, Diaz said there is still a need for more transportation options. The borough president said he supports expanding the CitiBike program and building a subway line between the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. And beyond the tri-borough region, Diaz said he's also keeping a close eye on the White House.

"The sometimes unhinged, often dangerous rhetoric we hear from Washington, from the new president, is a threat to all we have accomplished," he said.

Diaz said the Bronx would not be the borough it is without its diverse immigrant population. He also said some 300,000 Bronxites could lose health care if President Donald Trump repeals the Affordable Care Act.
