Staten Island Ferris Wheel Project Moves Forward

Recommended modifications to the giant Ferris wheel project planned along the Staten Island waterfront has received final approval from the New York City Council.

It means the New York Wheel can continue as scheduled, with completion slated for 2017.

The changes largely focused on a 950-unit parking garage adjacent to the wheel.

The 630-foot-tall observation wheel was approved by the city Planning Commission and the City Council in 2013. It went back to the public-review process because the developer proposed changes.

The wheel will provide views of New York City, New Jersey and beyond during a slow-moving 38-minute ride.
