Stephanie Gaitley Show (2/12)

Mike Watts, WFUV Sports

Fordham falls to #18/#15 Dayton

Prior to Sunday’s matchup against #18 Dayton, the Fordham Rams Women’s Basketball program had never beaten a top 25 opponent. The Rams remained winless against nationally ranked opponents with a tough 68-57 loss. Despite only trailing by 3 points at the half, the Maroon and White just didn’t have enough to take the next step in the Atlantic 10.

This is one of the main topics I discussed with head coach Stephanie Gaitley. The former Villanova standout told the program that the lack of bench production and foul trouble hurt her team against the Flyers. Gaitley emphasized the importance of getting senior Charlotte Stoddart and sophomore Emily Tapio back in the lineup for the stretch run. Fortunately sophomore Christina Gaskin was able to play a few minutes against Dayton, however the forward continues to battle an ongoing illness.

We also had the pleasure of talking to Luxembourg National Team head coach Herman Paar. Paar, who is a long time friend of Gaitley, flew to the Big Apple to visit with the Fordham head coach and check out her team’s players. The German native said that he would certainly be open to the idea of seeing a Fordham Ram play overseas for him in Europe. Nicknamed Herm the Germ, Paar explained on the show how critical it is to play collegiate ball before heading overseas.

At 16-7 overall and 6-2 in the Atlantic 10, the Rams have a big week ahead against two tough opponents. The team’s first game is tomorrow afternoon at 12pm when the Rams host the Colonials of George Washington. Our coverage begins here on at 11:55 AM. Then Sunday the team is in St. Louis for a matchup with the Bilikens. Game time is 2pm and we’ll be on with the One on One pregame report at 1:55pm.
