Stephanie Gaitley Show (2/19)
Mike Watts, WFUV Sports
It would be easy for a team to be content with securing an A10 berth with four games remaining in the conference slate. Of course the Fordham Women’s Basketball team isn’t nearly done completing one of the most drastic turnarounds in the nation just yet.
This week it was another pair of conference wins – first the Rams celebrated President’s Day a little early with a blowout of the George Washington Colonials in the Rose Hill Gym in their annual school day matinee. Fordham cruised to a big win in front of its biggest crowd of the year to guarantee a winning season. Then the Rams went on the road and dropped Saint Louis for the first time in the Gateway City even with sharpshooter Marah Strickland missing the game due to injury. All this success came despite an injury list that includes mainstays Charlotte Stoddart, Emily Tapio, and Liz Milner.
This week on the Stephanie Gaitley Show, Chris Marasco and I talk to Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley about her team’s recent national spotlight (including a recent Associated Press feature and a CBS Sports Network feature which aired Monday), Samantha Clark’s fourth Atlantic Ten Rookie of the Week nod (a program record), and the road ahead. We also went inside the huddle this week with two sophomores who have helped change the Fordham Women’s Basketball culture – Taryn Durant and Liz Milner. Durant and Milner discuss their changing roles on the squad and the unfinished business that awaits the team in the coming weeks.
There is also a discussion about the possibility of a WFUV Sports Harlem Shake (highly unlikely, by the way) and the epic Fordham Women’s Basketball Harlem Shake video.
