Stephanie Gaitley Show (2/26)
Fordham Sports Information
Fordham is peaking at the right time, and a chance at a first round bye will be at stake as Fordham closes its conference season with a pair of contests this week. With a chance to become the "Super Rams" (against Rhode Island) and to prove their legitimacy on their home court (Saint Joseph’s), last week was a telling one for Fordham’s chances come tournament time.
A road win over a feisty URI squad, despite a bad shooting night for the Maroon Rams, propelled Fordham to a 9-2 mark in conference. The win was Fordham's third over a fellow "Rams" team (Colorado State, Rhode Island, VCU and Fordham are the only "Rams" in Division I college basketball). This was the first such Ram sweep in NCAA history. Then it was a gutsy overtime performance at the Rose Hill Gym which put the Rams in the driver’s seat, taking the all-important head to head tiebreaker with Saint Joseph’s. Marah Strickland totaled 31 points in the Rams victory over Saint Joseph’s, shattering her previous career collegiate best.
This week on the Stephanie Gaitley Show, I spoke with Coach Gaitley about her squad’s wins over bottom dweller Rhode Island and conference contender Saint Joseph’s. We looked at the contribution of reigning A10 Rookie of the Week Samantha Clark and A10 co-Player of the Week Marah Strickland. We spoke about her squad’s quick ascent in the conference and how special Sunday’s game was for her (for a multitude of reasons). We preview the end of the regular season with games against Saint Bonaventure and Temple on tap in the week ahead.
We also went inside the huddle with a trio of Fordham senior day honorees. Arielle Collins, Marah Strickland, and Charlotte Stoddart stopped by to talk about last week’s victories, experiencing Senior Day in the Rose Hill Gym, and some of their favorite memories as Rams both on and off the court.
