Stephanie Gaitley Show (3/19)
This wasn’t the way it was supposed to end for Fordham. With a 12-0 run to begin the game, it looked like the Rams were on their way to an NCAA Tournament appearance for the first time since 1994. However, with under 10 seconds to go, the clock finally struck midnight on this magical season as freshman Samantha Clark was whistled for a questionable offensive foul giving St. Joes their first A-10 championship since 1999.
On this week’s episode, I talked with head coach Stephanie Gaitley about the final moments of this heartbreaking 47-46 loss at the Barclays Center and Thursday’s WNIT matchup against Army. Coach Gaitley called Saturday night’s loss the most painful of her career and said it will take her team a while to separate from the defeat. That being said, Gaitley reminded her team at practice today to use this experience as fuel for a deep run in the WNIT.
Also joining the show this week were graduate student Marah Strickland and junior Abigail Corning. Strickland, who was a major reason for Fordham’s hot start against the Hawks, credited St. Joes for shutting her down in the second half. As for Corning, she emphasized that the team needs to consider the WNIT as a new season and focus on doing everything to advance to the next round.
Thursday night’s contest against Army will be Fordham’s first postseason game since 1994 and the first ever playoff game at the Rose Hill Gym. Coverage of this first round WNIT matchup can be found right here on WFUVSports.org starting with the One on One Pre Game Report at 6:55pm. A free video steam will also be available on FordhamSports.com.
