Stephanie Gaitley Show (3/26)
Mike Watts, WFUV Sports
Prior to this season, head coach Stephanie Gaitley had never been to the third round of any postseason tournament. The Fordham Rams changed that with a 58-44 victory over the Boston University Terriers in the 2nd round of the WNIT. The Maroon and White takes its show on the road for the first time during this tournament against 2012 WNIT runner-up James Madison University.
On this week’s episode, Chris Marasco and I talked with the newest member of the 500 win club about the team’s victory over BU, keys against JMU and the challenges of playing away from home. Coach Gaitley told us that the rigors of Atlantic 10 play have mentally and physically prepared the squad for the playoffs. Gaitley also said that her team must control the glass in order to move on to the next round of the WNIT.
We also chatted with senior Arielle “Ace” Collins and junior tri-captain Abigail Corning. Collins is coming off one of her most impressive performances of the season as she scored 12 points and used her stifling defense to shut down BU’s all conference point guard Mo Moran. Corning was also a major reason for Fordham’s double digit win last Saturday afternoon. The two players told us that the team can’t look ahead and must remain focused on all things James Madison.
It should be a great game Wednesday, as the Rams look to hand the Dukes their first ever postseason loss at home. You can catch all the action right here on WFUVSports.org starting with the One on One pre game report at 6:55pm.
