Strike A Chord: Helping Disabled Veterans Find Work

When Ozias Batista was discharged from the army in 2000, she struggled to find a job. Soon, she and her five kids found themselves homeless.

Eventually, she went back to school and got a job with the New York State Department of Labor.

Batista is now a "Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist" and helps disabled veterans get the skills they need to be successful after leaving the military.

''The reason why I'm doing this job and I love it is because, I don't want veterans who are coming out of the service, to feel lost like I felt. Like I didn't know which way to go, which way to turn, so that way I can be able to provide for them the information that they need, so they don't feel the way I felt."

Batista wants veterans, disabled or otherwise, to now there are career centers around the state ready to help for free.
